Mission Statement

Juxtaposition Winter Guard aims to empower young adults through performance-based education in the winter guard arts — fostering artistic excellence, personal growth, teamwork, and a supportive community for performers.

Empowering Performers Since 1998

Juxtaposition Winterguard was founded in 1998 at a moment when opportunity was taken away, but belief remained. When the school district where Stephanie Furniss taught announced that its Winterguard would no longer take the floor, students lost more than a program. They lost a place to belong, a space to be challenged, and a powerful outlet for self-expression.

Refusing to let that be the final chapter, Stephanie, alongside a small group of drum corps friends, turned loss into purpose. What began as a response to adversity became a lasting promise: that no performer’s passion would be limited by circumstance, and that excellence, growth, and artistic voice would always have a home. That promise continues to define Juxtaposition today, an environment where performers are empowered, challenged to reach their highest potential, and valued as individuals both on and off the floor.
